nice! There was a poster at HPG by a high school student(!) that used a similar trick (I think) to do refraction with a rasterizer: "Constant-Time Light Refraction Simulation", Chase Mayer and Ulf Assarsson. Unfortunately the poster links on the HPG website seem to be broken.
