This was a big win for US fascism, and one they will certainly build on to imprison more political opponents moving forward. It's hard not to feel a lot of despair right now.

Edited to add: Margaret Killjoy points out that this was an edge case that made for an easy target for prosecution. Our focus right now should be on solidarity with the protesters, not on freaking out. "While the sky is indeed falling, it is not falling any faster today than it was yesterday."

This is really, really bad, and sets some awful and dangerous precedents.

The government will continue its attempts at crushing and criminalizing dissent.

Solidarity in these times is crucial.

Be loud, be proud, and support antifascists.
