When I was using Gnuplot in the early 2000s, I thought of it as an old, creaky program.
The hidden value of speeding up non-constraint in the system is that it makes real constraint more prominent, making it more visible that speeding up non-constraint was never the right problem to solve.
Sometimes you just need to sit it out for the right problem and right solution to that problem to become more obvious to more people.
