Articles like the one below make a big deal about AI-written articles overwhelming the peer-review system, but reviewers have been a limiting factor even before AI.

Open-access page fees will emerge as the new bottleneck, regardless of whether AI is driving or not. The Nelson memo kicked in this year, and that means articles are far from free to publish anymore ($1.5k–$15k/article). This may act as a Pigouvian corrective tax.
