AI is killing open source but not in the way people are thinking. Most think that AI generated code is a replacement for human written code. And it is —
— except in one respect. It has no human author.
This means AI code is not copyrightable i.e. It has no owner, it's public domain. AI software can't be bought or sold (except to the gullible). It can't be licensed commercially or open source.
So AI is not just killing open source software, it's killing software as we know it. All software.
