Great preprint, where one can see #epithelia torn by pulling on them or by their internal #tension (generated by #myosin activity).
A slow pull (low strain rate) allows the monolayer to sustain much larger strain.
Finally, they show how #keratin intermediate filaments are key for these mechanical properties.
