The Draft Riots unleashed a wave of destruction, death, and injury, affecting both rioters and those caught in the chaos. Property damages assessed reached over $2.5 million. Lasting for four days, the riot was finally quelled by the local police and the 7th NY Regiment. The reported death toll of 119 people remains an underestimate, with estimates suggesting the number could be around 1,000.
