Thank God that in the case of the US Russian nuclear stalemate, both sides were smart enough to realize that it was MAD to allow that mutually assured destruction to happen.
The problem here is both sides are spiteful beyond their best interests. The war not only lacks a rationale, it's being executed by the irrational.
