Historian - medievalist/generalist. Retired from University of Hull (UK), but more active than ever. Interests: military, maritime, social & economic, east-central Europe. 'Hardened prosopographer', networks obsessive & database builder. Learning about numismatics & postal history. Alternative academic paths seriously considered: (1) landscape history & Domesday Book; (2) prosopography of Napoleonic armies. Life would have been very different.
