Luke 6

Lots of teaching here.

"Why do you call me 'lord' and not do as I say?"
Answer: because they're being insincere flatterers.

This bit reminds me of elsewhere, when Jesus says "Why do you call me 'good master'? For no-one is good but God alone."

Again, this obsession by the Pharisees with "you can't do that on the Sabbath"... according to their traditions.

"Take the log out of your own eye first, then you can take the mote out of your brother's eye." That is a principle which is forgotten and ignored over and over and over again: if you know what is good and righteous, first ask yourself if you are following the right path, not whether someone else is. "Judge not, lest you be judged."

Note that Adam's first sin was... wanting to judge between good and evil.

Luke 5

The throngs are thronging, the healings are happening.

IMHO, in regard to the details differing, that's a sign of their authenticity. Just look at different news stories! When they actually do their own reporting, rather than regurgitating the same source, the details are going to differ; either because the reporters asked different questions, or because they chose to emphasize one thing over another. And let us not forget that the gospels, rather than being up-to-the-minute news, were written years after the events happened. No cameras, no tape recorders. Were any of the witnesses in the habit of writing a daily journal? No? Yes? I know from personal experience, when I've been, for example, on a trip to a special event, and have kept a journal for that, even in the course of one day, I may not recall exactly what order events happened in, and that's at the end of the same day!

(Thank you for coming to my TED talk....)
