have it in some production code at an old job, probably as close as a rust codebase has ever come to legacy (started being authored pre 1.0), codebase was full of code paths with legitimately no sensible recovery strategy, and so instead of bubbling a useless error all the way to the top it'd just panic and catch unwind to continue working
