It was my geophysics professor for a remote sensing class. You know how the science nerds in Star Trek will say they're going to "recalibrate the sensor array to cut through the interference" or "narrow the frequency of the sensor sweep to isolate traces of macguffinite ore"? That's actually kind of a real thing that you can do with the instruments on satellites (or any really fancy camera, actually).

I'm a simple man: I like my beer cold, my music loud, and my swords laser. I write TTRPG stuff & design nerdy t-shirts. (he/him/anh/anh ấy)
A satellite with a full spectrum camera that can see infrared to ultraviolet can show you what things look like as well as how hot or cold they are (think "Predator vision modes").
Things get hot from baking in the sun. Dark things get hotter than light colored things. If you know how to "recalibrate the sensor array", you can go from "which things are hot or cold?" to "which things are hotter/colder than they should be from just sitting in the sun?"
