The further I get in my career, the more I end up being the one Adult In The Room that knows how to do a thing,
except "knows" here means "did it once poorly, without expert supervision"
Yet that's still more than the rest have and
Oh fuck has it always been so and now I'm just on the other side-
I feel ya. My coworkers are all 10+ years younger than me now and I can see the same process.
Recently I had a design meeting where at some point I realised I was talking 95% of the time because there was a design complication they saw as a problem, and I just kept listing all the solutions to it that I've seen over the years.
I guess my big blessing in disguise is I used to work under some extremely incompetent directors and learned from their many mistakes.
A while back I hadn't realized how much I was lodging my foot into the table I use as a "workbench" to hold it still when working on stuff in the garage.
Was trying to figure out why my ankle hurt so much, even brought it up to the doctor at one point.
Ended up weighing it down with the dumbbells I should be using to lose weight, and then later reusing a heap of gallon water bottles so I could actually use the weights. Eventually I'm just gonna build a hefty bench.
