My job on my team is telling everyone about the local trains they can take instead of Uber.
I was advising some folks recently about booking a hotel for the conference, and I said smth like: "Oh, this is a good one, it is next to the tram stop, and the tram line has a direct connection to the venue, and to the main train station!"
And people were looking at me worried: "Tram stop? Do they not have Uber there?"
And I've realized that we have completely different modes of operation.
I consider taxi only as a last resort option which you use when you need to get to the airport at 5 a.m. in the morning and nothing else works. I _plan_ my travel around public transport.
I choose the Alpine village to go hiking based on whether or not it has a train station :)
And apparently this is not how many other people do it..
Same. And I am certain at least half of my colleagues will disregard the information I provided and take Uber anyway.
Trains are safer, undisturbed by traffic, better for the environment, cheaper, avoids the awkward Uber pickup/dropoff dance, and small talk in the car. All winning! And then I usually get a nice stroll to my hotel in a new city to get my bearings in the end (must remember to bring my umbrella).
People in US are just weird about public transit.
