You can tell Monopoly is an old game.

There's a luxury tax and rich people can go to jail.

Either old or futuristic. Because in the olden days, rich people payed to stay out of jail. Cos they knew the police chief and the prison warden, etc.

The rich only go to/stay in jail if they want to - if they don't want to stay there they can buy their way out.

The luxury tax similarly benefits the rich - it's a regressive tax, it's trivial for the rich to pay but can be very difficult for the poor.

The rich only really go to jail when it’s rich on rich crime.

And if one has got it all you stop the play.

Poor Maggie, her game stolen by big companies. You knew The Landlord's Game was actually a critique of landlords monopoly over homes ?

While this surely is right, the story about monopoly and capitalism is much more complex (and a bit sad). Recently, someone in my timeline posted the following article (I will tag them if I find the original posting): publicdomainreview.org/collect

The Public Domain Review

The Landlord's Game: Lizzie Magie and Monopoly's Anti-Capitalist Origins (1903)

The story of how a homemade, anti-capitalist game created by a woman becomes a mass-produced uber-capitalist game that profited a man.
