I saw southern auroras last night!!!! Rakiura! Holy cow that was AMAZING

(Follow up note: it was just barely visible to the naked eye, and just looked totally white with maybe a hint of red. A camera was required to see the colours)

Oh, and here's one from just a few minutes earlier that is full of satellite streaks 馃槶

Wowee! Zowee! Did you hear any alien spacecraft or anything like that?

What a beautiful, unearthly display!

Gosh do I hate satellite reflections. Used photograph in the old days of manually guiding a telescope for two hours or so. A satellite ruins a whole night.

Now, though you can photograph again soon in a minute or two, there are so many more shiny satellites to put up with.

No one ever asked us if we were willing to give up our sky heritage in exchange for the tech benefits.
