They are. Australia is doing something that's not only good but necessary.

How is that wrong exactly? Have you not seen the rise of fascism with Elon's X? This is a very necessary measure.

I wonder if it depends on how it is implemented.
If the govt set up a service for issuing expiring cryptographic tokens as an anonymous digital 'proof of age' for some sites (or something). It still would not be great... But maybe okay...
