No idea why I thought of fedi

ohhhh as I learned last summer, one of the only places on the eastern seaboard where a person could try out different types of concertinas in person

There’s not enough money in fixing these mechanical boxes with more parts than your laptop (maybe some more than a grand piano)

If people get an #accordion for $300 off eBay, but fair cost of repairs would be $500, who will pay enough to support rent in a big city?

It’s hardly a viable business for every town or even region. Which is what we need to keep the instruments up and running as more than novelties

Rough squeezebox world out there

yeah, I scored a not-great hohner 20-button Anglo concertina via craigslist last year and it sent me down a rabbit hole

it seems like a common pattern is can't find a repair shop > learn how to repair it yourself > start making the dang things because they're fascinating

The last dedicated #accordion shop in #london #uk closed in May this year. I bought my first accordion (a Delicia Arnaldo) from them about 10 years ago to learn on and made sure to buy a better one (a Hohner Virtuola) from there once I knew I was going to stick at it. Emilio was incredibly patient guiding me through the options and answering my at-times extremely noob questions. Sad times.
