Where do 'games as a service' end up long term? One good example of entertainment as a service is Sports.
- Relatively small number of major sports popular for generations.
- Religion-class cultural movements in our secular world
- Massively profitable.
- Rarely about the technology or innovation.
- Lots of smaller sports that also exist, but rarely break out. A major new sports show up every 20-40 years.
Games as a service belong in the trash.
Simple as that.
It’s rent seeking behaviour of parasites that want to milk as much profit out of the least amount of effort possible. It stifles creativity and innovation.
Why release anything new if you can just give some character a new paint job and charge indefinitely.
Fuck micro transactions, loot boxes and battle passes while we’re at it.
If you want another paycheque make a new product.

@[email protected] are you willing to pay $80-90+ USD for a new game then? microtransactions and gaas aren't great (and i tend to not engage with them) but the unavoidable reality is that games cost increasingly more to make and have barely seen their price increase even through inflation
That’s for triple A games and those game been loosing quality for a while now.
Look up indie games. More creative and unique while being affordably priced.
Paying full price for a game is totally fine in the first place if that means we get a whole new game instead of an half assed games as a service garbage like Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad
I’d rather pay an extra 20 on top of a full game if it means we take out the predatory business methods.
