He thought he followed all the rules. Then border guards arrested him on the street. | CBC NewsA social worker who specializes in youth mental health is heading back to Ireland after he says Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada cancelled his work permit without his knowledge and without giving him a chance to respond.
When you apply for a work permit and say you're working in a specific field, but then moonlight as a musician on the side for money but don't tell IRCC that, they do have a point about misrepresentation (unfortunately).
CBC's article doesn't really explain what his music career was or if he was making money from it, or if it was just for fun and not for pay - but that's a critical piece of information - seemingly left out - they talk about his job at BC Children's that he did notify IRCC about - which was never the issue by the sounds of it - sounds like they suspected him of having a music career on the side.
The logistics issues and failures of notifying him are unacceptable however, as is arresting and holding him like a petty criminal is unacceptable considering he complied the entire time.
It certainly seems overly cruel and heavy handed considering the infraction.
